‘She never live any life yet’ - Dad says slain daughter had bright future

Keith Mason sat with his four daughters last weekend and listened as they discussed their plans for him for Father's Day. He was particularly excited about the fact that Sara Gaye, 20, was planning to cook up a storm.

However, in the blink of an eye, the family was rocked by the murder of Sara, who was shot and killed at her home on Verene Avenue in Cassia Park.

Her father said that he heard explosions and saw a car speeding away. He ran towards his home, but nothing could prepare him for what he was about to see.

"When di car fly back pass mi, mi run outta di wholesale and mi see a woman a run pass mi and a ask for mi, she not even did realise say a mi. When mi ask what happen, she tell mi say dem kill 'Little'. When mi really go look on mi daughter on the ground, mi couldn't believe," he said.

Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, head of the St Andrew Central Police Division, said that Sara's killing might have emanated from a gang feud in the area. He said that police are probing whether her death might have been due to mistaken identity.

Mason, meanwhile, said that he has been rocked to the core as a result of the death of his daughter.

"Sara was a quiet baby, she nuh make nutten trouble har. She tell mi say she buy mi a phone last year fi Father's Day and although she nah go get to buy mi anything this year, she was going to come and cook dinner for me," the father said.

"She was one of the biggest chef and mi know mi would enjoy the dinner, but see di Father's Day gift weh mi get deh. Dem kill mi daughter fi nutten," the grieving dad said.

Mason said Sara did not reside on Verene Avenue and was only visiting.

"[She] never live any life yet, she was a business person, so mi know she would become an entrepreneur, but dem never give her dat chance," Mason said.
