Murder accused charged for trying to ship drugs
A St Catherine man who is currently on bail for murder and is also facing larceny charges found himself before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday for allegedly breaching the Dangerous Drugs Act.
It is alleged that on July 15, 2020, Christopher Jarrett visited the offices of an overseas courier and shipped a package containing food products. When the package was searched, three ounces of a white powdery substance resembling cocaine was found. On June 24 this year, Jarrett was accosted by the police attached to the Narcotics Division at his Linstead, St Catherine, home and was informed of the offences, namely possession of, dealing in, conspiracy to export and attempting to export cocaine. He was cautioned and allegedly said: "[Name of person] weh used to live up a my side pay mi $20,000 fi ship some crackers, Milo and Lasco fi him. Him nuh up deh again and me nuh know weh fi find him cuz me nuh see him again."
Jarrett made his first appearance in the matter before Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks but was not arraigned. He also indicated that he has an attorney, however, no lawyer was present on his behalf. Crooks then adjourned the matter until September 20 for the file to be completed and Jarrett to settle his legal representation. Crooks also made Jarrett the subject of a fingerprint order and requested his criminal records.
