Shab Don’s lawyer to seek bail
Dancehall producer Shab Don was absent from the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday where he is facing bribery charges as he is currently in custody after being charged with three counts of murder in Montego Bay, St James.
His lawyer, Donahue Martin, said that he plans to make a bail application for his client who is accused of another crime.
"Unfortunately, he was wrongfully accused of a particular offence outside of the jurisdiction and he was not brought [to the ] today. I intend to convince your sisters elsewhere concerning his status in that matter," Martin told the court. The lawyer was making reference to his client's most recent legal battle in the St James Parish Court last month, in which he is charged for the shooting deaths of 27-year-old Chadwell Frazer, otherwise called 'Bomb Brain' or 'Chad'; 24-year-old Chamario 'Chippy' Calvin; and 26-year-old Toniann 'Too Fly' Reid.
The trio were shot dead at a birthday party on Marl Road in Rose Heights, St James, on May 25. Shab Don, whose given name is Linval Thompson Jr, is accused of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act, following his arrest last October. Prosecutors alleged that he offered $2 million to a cop to remove an illegal firearm from his grey Mercedes-Benz motor car before it was searched by investigators.
Yesterday, an outstanding statement from the scene of crime investigators was submitted. The case file is now complete and a trial date of November 28 has since been settled. In the meantime, the producer is to return to the St James Parish Court on July 26.
