WEIRD STUFF: Dogs cry tears of joy

Dogs cry tears of joy

A new study, published in the journal, Current Biology, found that dogs shed tears during happy situations.

Lead author Professor Takefumi Kikusui was inspired to do the study after noticing that his poodle had tears in her eyes after giving birth six years ago.

During the study, experts added the 'love hormone' oxytocin to the dogs' eyes, and the results supported the theory that a canine sheds tears after spotting its owner.

Previous research has found that oxytocin is released when dogs play with their owners, but this is the first study to link the hormone to tears.

Professor Kikusui, from Azabu University in Japan, said: "We had never heard of the discovery that animals shed tears in joyful situations, such as reuniting with their owners, and we were all excited that this would be a world first.

"Dogs have become a partner of humans, and we can form bonds. In this process, it is possible that the dogs that show teary eyes during interaction with the owner would be cared for by their owners more."

Sex doll found 'dead'

A 'dead body' found on a beach in Thailand turned out to be an ultra-realistic sex doll.

Horrified beachgoers came across the 'naked corpse' on Bang Saen beach in the Chonburi province last week and made frantic calls to the emergency services.

Paramedics and police rushed to the scene, expecting to find a dead body, only to discover that it was a Japanese sex doll worth PS469.

Photos show the doll washed up on the beach with a bare leg clearly visible. The police think that it was left in a river before floating into the sea and ending up on the shore.

A Bang Saen district police spokesperson said: "On August 18, 2022, rescue teams were informed that people on the beach were shocked to see a young woman naked and unconscious.

"The officers then rushed to check and, from a distance, saw a small, beautiful woman with a bare bottom."

The item is being kept at the local station in case the owner wants to reclaim it, even though the doll is missing its head.

Regular sex is healthy

A new study has suggested that making love twice a week is as important for a person's health as quitting smoking or cutting down on alcohol consumption, and lowers the risk of suffering a heart attack.

Geoffrey Hackett, a professor of men's health at Aston University in Birmingham, said: "We estimate that 20 minutes of sexual activity in a man is the equivalent of walking a mile, and that's a reasonable amount of physical effort if you do it often enough.

"I'd suggest men and women aim for some kind of sexual activity twice a week."

Professor Hackett has argued that doctors should be telling patients more about sexual activity, and claims that prescribing it could save lives.

He explained: "Sexual activity is something we rarely discuss, yet knowing if a man has regular erections tells me an awful lot about his health."
