Kingston man missing without a trace
Kingston resident Romario Williamson was due to depart the island yesterday for his eight-day vacation in Antigua. However, he did not make the flight -- not because he got to the airport late, but because he cannot be found.
Family members last saw the 24-year-old man last Thursday.
"The suitcase pack and everything, enuh, he was ready for the trip," one family member said. "Him just gone missing without a trace, just suh. We nuh know weh fi turn, weh fi do. It's like we just at a dead end and we nuh have nothing."
Reports from the Elletson Road police in Kingston are that relatives last spoke with Williamson via telephone on the night of Thursday, September 8, at which time he told them he was visiting friends. However, when efforts were made to contact him the next day, they were unsuccessful. All subsequent attempts to contact him have failed.
Williamson, who lives at Manley Meadows in Kingston, was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, yellow shorts and a pair of blue slippers. He is of brown complexion, slim build and is about 168 centimetres (5 feet 6 inches) tall.
When THE STAR visited his family home in Kingston Central yesterday, the family members appeared to be in a state of despair. Williamson's mother, Andrea Brissett, said it was customary for her to speak with him on the telephone every morning before she leaves for work. They also talk every evening.
However, she figured something was wrong when she did not hear from him last Friday.
"When me see him naah call me, me nah think nothing much bout it. Me a say him busy, probably him a pack. Inna di 2 o'clock [p.m.], Friday me a say me a call Maro and me nah get him, a wonder a wah. Same time, him friend call me and say 'yuh know say me nah get Bigs'. A suh now me start call some other people and tell dem," Brissett related, her voice cracking.
"We get to a cousin weh say him and him go trim over Greater Portmore. After him finish trim, him tell him cousin say him a go pon a flex," the worried mother related said.
She said that family members contacted a friend whom Williamson is believed to have linked up with but he was told that he had not seen him since Thursday.
Concerned about his disappearance the family used social media to ask for the public's help in finding Williamson. A user told them that Williamson, who was a member of the Jamaica National Service Corps, was locked up at Up Park Camp, the headquarters of the Jamaica Defence Force. They quickly made checks there but came up empty-handed.
Brissett described Williamson, her last of two sons, as a jovial, humble and fun-loving person. She said that they shared a close bond.
"Me just feel lost and confused. I don't know what to do. A the first this ever a happen. Him always make me day -- make me laugh -- no matter wah problem me a go through," Brissett told THE STAR as tears welled in her eyes.
"Me a hold on to hopes that Maro [Williamson] a guh just call and say 'Weh unnu a put me fah and say me missing?'. Me just a pray say that happen," she said.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Romario Williamson is asked to contact the Elletson Road Police at 876-839-6875, the police 119 emergency numbers or the nearest police station.
