An England supporter claims he is confident that his team can break their World Cup drought on December 18, but only if they avoid playing five-time champions and overwhelming favourites Brazil in the finals.

"England is my team, but if they meet Brazil in the finals, they will lose 2-0," said businessman David Woolcock, to the surprise of his friends during a game of dominoes at Sonia's Place on the Terrace, located off Waltham Park Road in St Andrew.

Woolcock, claiming to be a lifelong England supporter, made the startling remark on Tuesday during Portugal's 6-1 hammering of Switzerland in a one-sided round-of-16 encounter. Woolcock believes that Brazil's threat would prove too much for England, despite the Three Lions playing impressive football in the tournament.

"I am a realist. I am bringing England but they will meet up on a team that they cannot beat. I think Brazil's depth is better than England right now in terms of attacking. If you notice Brazil's substitutions, they just take off four persons one time. It's like they take out an engine and put in a new one and it keep running. Plus Brazil have a stronger defence," he added.

His comments sparked an intense debate around the ongoing World Cup on a somewhat low-key day, even though European powerhouses Spain and Portugal were in action. Morocco will continue to represent for the African continent after beating a misfiring Spain 3-0 on penalties, after both teams failed to score during the regular 90 minutes and extra time.

It was the most uneventful day for me as co-host of Cheers To The Cup, as seemingly everyone decided to save their energy until Friday when both Brazil and Argentina play in their respective quarter-final games against Croatia and the Netherlands, respectively.

Although not a fan of Portugal, Richard Lindo, a professional photographer based in Seaview Gardens, was at the Big Dreams Sports Bar in the community, to watch the team wallop Switzerland with his friends. We got into a heated debate about a potential clash between Lionel Messi's Argentina against Brazil in the semi-final.

"Yuh think Argentina have nobody fi stop the Brazil machine? A worries when Neymar, Vinicus Jr and Richarlison run out pon dem. A unuh mi wah buck enuh man. Mi tell everybody say World Cup will have two finals this year, one in the semi-finals and the actual finals," Lindo exclaimed.

"All now wi no start play no real ball yet. Everything is just a warm up fi the real thing inna di finals," he continued.

Very calmly, I pointed out to Lindo that Argentina emerged victorious when the two South American giants played in the 2019 Copa America final, which was held in Brazil.

"A sorry wi sorry fi Messi and gi him dah trophy because a big league wi deal wid," Lindo rebutted.
