Cuban national killed in vehicular accident in Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Feb 3, CMC – A Cuban national died after the vehicle in which she was travelling burst into flames after being involved in a accident with another vehicle, late Thursday, police have confirmed.

They said the two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when in the vicinity of 40 Miles, Mabura, a village located along the Lethem – Linden trail at Region 10, the two vehicles collided as they came around a bend in the road.

The police said both vehicles burst into flames on impact, forcing passengers to escape through the windows and any other opening they could find.

It said that the unidentified Cuban woman who was seated behind the driver appeared to have been trapped after the collision and was burnt to death. The drivers of the two vehicles as well as 12 passengers were transferred to the Mackenzie Hospital for medical treatment.

Police said they will question the two drivers as they continue their investigations.
