Senior killed in St Ann hit-and-run

A 73-year-old man died as a result of injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run incident along the Mammee Bay main road in St Ann on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Delroy Henderson, of Albion Mount, Mount Maria, in the parish.

Reports from the St Ann's Bay police are that about 10 p.m., Henderson was in the process of crossing the roadway, when he was hit by a Toyota Wish motor car that was travelling towards Ocho Rios.

Investigators are now appealing to anyone who may have information that can assist them to contact the St Ann's Bay police at 876-972-2211, the Police 119 number or the nearest police station. Investigation continues.

Vulnerable road users such as pedestrians account for a high percentage of traffic-related deaths yearly. Last year, 109 pedestrians died in road crashes last year. Eight of the 33 persons who have died on the road since the start of the year are pedestrians.
