Businessman to stand trial for ammunition

The CEO of Nutrition Products Limited, Andrew Narine, is set to stand trial in June for having extra rounds of ammunition in his possession.

Narine was also charged with using indecent language and failure to wear a mask, a breach under the Disaster Risk Management Act, last March. The trial date was set for June 6 yesterday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, after prosecutors indicated to Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque that the case file was complete.

It is alleged that police attached to the St Andrew South Division were on patrol on March 6, when they noticed Narine standing in a public place, without wearing a mask. When they approached to inform him of the breach, an argument ensued and Narine allegedly uttered indecent language. One of the policemen indicated that he noticed a bulge in Narine's waistband and enquired about it, at which point the accused informed the police he was a licensed firearm holder. Narine was told to accompany the police to the Olympic Gardens Police Station where the necessary checks were made about his status. While at the station, Narine shared that he was in possession of 52 rounds of 9mm cartridges. Police then informed him that he had two additional rounds of ammunition, breaching the terms and conditions of the use of the firearm holder's licence.

He is on bail in the sum of $80,000 with a surety and is represented by Tom Tavares-Finson K.C. and Marcus Moore.
