Probe launched into alleged assault of police constable
The Denham Town Police have launched an investigation into an alleged case of assault against a police constable by three members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) at a checkpoint.
The soldiers are being accused of assault at common law, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and assaulting a member of the constabulary.
It is reported that about 8 p.m. on Sunday, the policeman still dressed in his uniform was driving his private motor car along Hannah Street main road.
Upon reaching a JDF check point he heard a banging sound on his vehicle and he stopped.
He was ordered by a soldier to step out of the vehicle and he complied. One member reportedly pointed his weapon on the police as he alighted the car. He then shoved him three times on the chest.
While he was outside the vehicle, two other members including a Sergeant joined in and started to abuse the policeman verbally. This resulted in a crowd converging on the scene.
Other police personnel came a diffused the matter, and the incident was reported.
