Less than 24 hours after residents staged a massive protest over a prolonged dust problem and the unavailability of piped water, four shops were mysteriously destroyed by fire in the Fairy Hill community in Eastern Portland on Tuesday morning.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it took fire fighters more than two hours to contain the blaze, which has basically destroyed the livelihood of four commercial operators and their ability to provide for their families.

Fire fighters from Port Antonio said that they responded to a fire call round about 4:00 a.m., however, when they arrived on the scene, the fire had already engulfed the building, comprising shops lying in close proximity to each other.
