Men caught with illegal firearms
Two men were formally charged with possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition, following an incident in Runaway Bay, St Ann, on Tuesday.
They are Kevin Fletcher, 23, otherwise called 'Pork Face' of Victoria District, Linstead, St Catherine, and Antonio Small, 19, otherwise called ' Joe Bob' of Coleyville, Manchester.
Reports are that about 4:30 a.m., a police team conducted targeted operation at a one-bedroom house occupied by Fletcher and Small. During the search one 9mm pistol with a magazine containing three 9mm rounds was found in a brown cloth bag. The men were subsequently interviewed and charged. Their court date is being finalised.
In a separate incident, a police team from the Specialised Operations Branch in Westmoreland seized one Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 11 9mm rounds of ammunition on the Three Mile River main road, Savanna-la-Mar, on Wednesday.
Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that about 2:29 a.m., the team was on mobile patrol when they signalled a man driving a motorcycle to stop. He disobeyed the signal and the lawmen pursued him. He drove onto a premises, where he was seen throwing an object to the ground. The object was retrieved and found to be the firearm. He was arrested and taken into custody. His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
Also in Westmoreland, a team of officers assigned seized one firearm along the Belle Isle Road, Grange Hill on Tuesday. Reports are that about 4:30 a.m., a police team conducted a targeted operation in the area. During the search, a shopping bag containing one CZ 75 9mm pistol was found in bushes. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
