Dancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta has requested privacy to rest and reconnect with family and loved ones following his released from prison on Thursday.

The entertainer, whose given name is Leroy Russell, was released from one of the country's maximum security facilities where he served time for gun-related offences.

"We can confirm that Mr Leroy Russell, aka Tommy Lee Sparta, has been released from custody. He is asking for privacy in the coming days as he rests and reconnects with family and loved ones," the artiste's management team said in a statement. 

The Soul Reaper deejay spent nearly three years in lock-up following his arrest in December 2020 after he was found with a firearm when a motor vehicle in which he was travelling was intercepted by members of the police's Specialised Operations Unit. He pleaded guilty in March 2021 and was sentenced to three years for possession of the illegal firearm, and two years for illegal possession of ammunition.  The sentences ran concurrently.

Born and raised in Montego Bay, St James, Tommy Lee Sparta is best known for hits such as Psycho, Buss A Blank, Outlaw, Spartan Soldier, and Under Vibes.
