Stolen gun used to commit murder

April 11, 2023

Investigators have traced the murder of a St James man to a gun that was stolen from an elderly licensed firearm holder.

Police in St James said that the victim, Anthony Junior Williams, otherwise called 'Sunny T', was shot and killed on August 31, 2022.

Using ballistic and forensic science, the police linked a pistol, which was recovered from the scene of a fatal shooting to Williams' murder. The gun was seized after three men were fatally shot and three pistol seized during a joint police-military operation in Hague Settlement, Trelawny, on October 8, 2022.

In December 2022, a ballistics report confirmed that one of the recovered pistols was stolen from an elderly licensed firearm holder and was subsequently used to kill Williams.

The police have since appealed to licensed firearm holders to exercise due care in securing their weapons. The lawmen said that in instances where licensed firearm holders fall ill, they and/or their relatives should make arrangements for the safe storage of the weapon.
