Prime Minister Andrew Holness has been advised to get ready to vacate Jamaica House, the headquarters of the country's government from which he has operated since 2016.

The departure notice was served by K.D. Knight, the long-standing People's National Party (PNP) member who, in 2011, famously instructed then Prime Minister Bruce Golding to 'pack your bags and go'.

On Tuesday night, Knight, speaking at a political meeting to launch Dr Alfred Dawes' campaign to become the PNP representative in St Catherine South East, said Holness should get himself a travelling bag.

"Andrew, buy a bag. Yuh goin' to need it," Knight said.

He continued: "For the others on his side, all a dem going to go together, so I telling them, buy a truck. Dem have to leave Gordon House, and I want them together, so I telling them, rent a bus," Knight said.

His political shadow boxing comes at the midway mark of the Government's five-year term in office. Holness, in 2020, led his Jamaica Labour Party to a massive victory over the PNP, winning 49 seats in the 63-House of Representatives. The PNP won only 14.

St Catherine South East was one of the seats that changed hands in the last general election, with the JLP winning for the first time since 1980. The seat is being targeted by the PNP as one of the must-wins if it is to regain state power. The current member of parliament is Robert Miller. Dawes and Alric Campbell, deputy Mayor of Portmore and councillor for the Edgewater division, are involved in an internal battle to decide who will represent the PNP in the next general election.

Dawes on Tuesday declared Campbell's campaign dead and predicted that he will get the nod to be the party's candidate. He also said that based on his soundings, Jamaicans are ready to see the back of the Holness administration.

"You don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar, using algorithms to know that poor people fed up. I am a 'R.O.A.D' scholar and I can tell you that the people are crying for a change. This administration is arrogant and out of touch and we need to teach them a lesson of humility and vote them out," Dawes said.
