Police seize three illegal firearms in five days
The St Andrew South police are reporting the seizure of three illegal firearms over the space of five days, and that they have no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
"We are going after the guns, we are finding them. And, the coordinated approach we have been using has been yielding some amount of success," says the division’s operations officer, Superintendent Coleridge Minto.
The most recent find comes from a targeted raid carried out on a premises located along Pottinger Avenue.
According to police reports, on arrival, a man was seen running from the building. The dwelling was checked, and two Taurus nine millimetre pistols and 20 rounds were found in a bedroom.
Upon further checks, a suspect matching the description of the man who fled earlier was subsequently found with another in a bedroom towards the back of the premises.
Both were arrested on the reasonable suspicion of being in possession of prohibited weapons.
Previously, a joint-military operation lead to the seizure of one firearm, and 17 rounds in the roof of a building in Whitfield Town in the division.
No arrests were made in relation to the find.
Minto is reminding the public to report anyone they see or know carrying out illegal activities such as extortion, or being in possession of firearms.
