Woman chopped in private part over sex

April 27, 2023

A St Thomas woman was attacked and cut in her vaginal area, allegedly by her common-law husband, during a dispute over sex.

THE STAR understands that the accused, a 40-year-old farmer, got irate after his partner, with whom he shares two children, repeatedly refused to have sex with him in the wee hours of the morning. A dispute developed and it escalated to the point where the man allegedly used a machete to cut his partner on both hands and her vaginal area.

The bizarre incident was confirmed by Superintendent Allison Byfield, head of the St Thomas Police Division. She told THE STAR yesterday that the accused man was now in the custody of the police.

"The police were called in and the male figure was arrested and taken into custody shortly after the incident," said Byfield.

She added that the accused was charged with assault at common law and that the complainant was making progress in her recovery.

"It is like a puncture wound," she said of the vaginal injury. "The complainant was assisted to the Princess Margaret Hospital [in St Thomas] where she was admitted, treated and then released today [Wednesday]," Byfield said.

A court date has not yet been finalised for the accused.
