$12m worth of cocaine seized at NMIA

Cocaine valued at an estimated $12 million was seized from a Jamaican-Canadian citizen at the Norman Manley International Airport on Tuesday.

He has been identified as 48-year-old Allister Christie of Above Rocks, in St Andrew and Mississauga, Ontario, in Canada,

It is reported that Christie checked in at the airport to board a flight destined to Canada, when several anomalies were detected during his security checks. 

The accused attempted to flee the airport, but was accosted, and searched. The illicit drug was found on him. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney; Christie has since been charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine, Taking Steps to Export Cocaine; and Conspiracy to Export Cocaine.

He is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday, May 09.
