Boys held for stealing dinosaur
SIOUX FALLS (AP): Police have hunted down a velociraptor that was stolen from outside a South Dakota arts and science centre.
Sioux Falls Police Sergeant Aaron Benson said that last Friday, a security officer spotted three people carrying the statue away from the Washington Pavilion and called police just after midnight. Surveillance video then helped officers track the statue to a nearby apartment, The Argus Leader reports.
"When opening the door, detectives could clearly see the velociraptor was sitting right inside," Benson said.
Police detained the three suspects on charges of grand theft. Benson said one was 18, another 19, and the third a juvenile.
"Fortunately, the statue was not damaged," stated Madelyn Grogan, the Washington Pavilion's director of education, programming and exhibits.
The statue and many other dinosaur representations are part of the 'Dinosaurs in the Wild' exhibition at the Washington Pavilion's science centre. The organisation did not provide any information on the size or weight of the statue. Scientists believe velociraptors grew to about six feet (1.8 metres) long and weighed about 100 pounds (45 kilograms) when they roamed the earth millions of years ago.
Men with big noses also have bigger penises
Big-nosed men really do have larger penises.
Scientists are convinced that that is down to chaps being exposed to higher levels of testosterone as they develop as babies in the womb, because the hormone is known to play an important role in forming the nose and genitals.
Research conducted by a team at Ulsan University Hospital in South Korea backed up a Japanese study's results from 2021 -- which found that blokes with conks topping 5.5cm boasted an average penis size of 13.4cm, well over five inches.
The latest study, involving over 1,100 men in their 30s, also shows that guys with big feet are likely to have wider todgers.
Researcher Dr Sungwoo Hong said: "Nose size is an important indicator of penile size. And penile circumference increased with foot size.
"Several studies have suggested that hormone exposure in the prenatal period affects the growth of reproductive organs."
Romping ants cause Internet outage
Ant sex cut off the Internet in a German village.
The randy insects caused chaos as they made a love nest in a distribution box from the local telecommunications provider in the village near Waldenburg in western Germany.
As the ants romped, they left behind a wafer-thin acid trail that corroded the cables and circuit boards, meaning residents had to cope for a whole week without making calls or browsing the Web.
Resident Manfred Worl told the newspaper Tag24: "This was a catastrophe! The whole area was hit in one swoop."
Insect expert Matthias Nuss argues that the love-making ants mistook the distribution box for a cave.
He said: "The ant orgy was eventually dealt with by exterminators, but the solution may only be temporary, as five failures due to ant infestations have been registered this year alone by the distribution company Telekom."
Man shoots self in leg while dreaming
CHICAGO (AP): A suburban Chicago man is facing firearm charges after he told officers he accidentally shot himself in the leg while dreaming that an intruder was breaking into his home, the police said.
The Lake Barrington man was charged about two months after Lake County Sheriff's deputies were called to his home on April 10 on a report about a person with a gunshot wound, thhe police said. Deputies who found the 62-year-old man with a gunshot wound to one of his legs applied a tourniquet to the limb because he "was losing a significant amount of blood" before being hospitalised, the police said.
The man told investigators that he "had a dream that someone was breaking into his home" and during that dream, he "retrieved his .357 Magnum revolver and shot at who he believed was the intruder," the police said.
"When he fired, he shot himself and apparently woke up from the dream," the police said in a news release.
