‘Determination and Passion’ - Tavarie Spencer inspires at Special Olympics
Tavarie Spencer's unwavering determination and deep love for football, combined with his unwavering commitment to the sport, have provided him with the opportunity to represent Jamaica on the international stage.
Hailing from August Town in St Andrew, Spencer is among the six talented athletes from the deaf community currently competing at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin, Germany. Alongside Isaiah Simmons, Tajay Able, Damion Gordon, Sandrine Lawrence, and Garth Anderson, he embraces this chance not only as a personal achievement but also as an avenue to bring pride and recognition to his homeland.
With his resolute determination, Spencer aspires to stand out in the football event, leaving an unforgettable mark on the Special Olympics.
His dreams reach even further as he envisions a future where his passion and dedication propel him to remarkable heights, including being recruited to play for renowned European football giants like Bayern Munich.
Drawing inspiration from revered athletes such as Lionel Messi, Spencer works as a warehouse attendant at Select Grocers in Manor Park, St Andrew, and uses their prowess and dedication as a source of motivation.
Reflecting on previous competitions, he describes the experiences as "great" and "exciting", as they have played a pivotal role in shaping his athletic journey and fostering his love for the sport.
When asked for advice to aspiring participants, Spencer shares a simple yet powerful message: "Go for it!" He also emphasises the importance of recognising that athletes participating in the Special Olympics are equally talented and passionate about their respective sports, just like anyone else.
