Farmer held with firearm, another on wounding charge

The police in Trelawny arrested and charged a farmer for breaches of the Firearms Act after a weapon was found in his possession in Jackson Town on Tuesday.

Charged with unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition is 28-year-old Oniel Dyer of Albert Town.

Reports from the Stewart Town police are that about 2 p.m., a team was conducting a vehicular checkpoint operation, when a Toyota Stepwagon in which Dyer was a passenger was signalled to stop. The driver complied and a search was conducted. One .357 Magnum revolver with six rounds of ammunition was found inside a knapsack belonging to Dyer. He was consequently arrested and charged. His court date is being arranged.

In St Elizabeth, another farmer is also in hot water. Forty-year-old Extol Grady, otherwise called 'Ranger', of Warminster, has been slapped with several charges following an incident in his community on May 24. Grady has been charged with shop breaking and larceny, assault at common-law, and unlawful wounding.

Reports from the St Elizabeth police are that a woman securely locked her shop and left. She received a call about 4 a.m. that her shop was being broken into. Accompanied by a man, she reportedly responded. They were attacked by Grady, who was armed with a machete. A struggle ensued, during which the man was injured. Grady was also injured but managed to escape with a bag containing $16,000, groceries and items of clothing.

Following intense investigations, Grady was arrested at his home on Tuesday, and subsequently charged. His court date is being arranged.
