Police shootout in Maroon Town leaves one dead

The St James police are reporting that an unidentified man was shot and killed during a shootout with cops in
Maroon Town on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was among a group of armed men who opened gunfire on lawmen while they carried out operations in a section of the community.

The police say the incident occurred about 3:30 a.m. and ensued for several hours. The unidentified male was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds at the end of the shooting.

An illegal firearm was taken from him, and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has commenced an investigation into the matter.
