Driver attacked for not giving back change

Nicklye Hutchinson, the man who last week escaped prosecution for allegedly trying to extort a man of $15,000 over lewd photos, has found himself standing in the prisoner's dock of the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court again.

This time, he is accused of attempting to stab a rideshare app service provider for not returning his change after a chartered drive. Hutchinson is charged on an indictment for assault at common law and malicious destruction of property. He has not yet entered a plea.

The allegations are that on April 23 at 2:30 p.m., the complainant was driving along Dominica Drive in New Kingston, when Hutchinson along with two other men, approached the complainant's vehicle and demanded that he pay them their change that he allegedly owes following a charter sometime earlier this year.

An argument developed between Hutchinson and the complainant, during which Hutchinson attempted to stab the complainant with a kitchen knife. However, during the melee, the complainant's rain visor was destroyed.

Hutchinson, who is in custody, was freed of extortion charges after the complainant in that matter expressed that he was no longer interested in continuing legal proceedings as he was preparing to begin training in the Jamaica Constabulary Force. Hutchinson is alleged to have demanded $15,000 from the complainant to not publish lewd videos that he had of him.

As he was released last week, Senior Parish Judge Paula Blake-Powell warned Hutchinson, "Be careful, not all cases end well Mr Hutchinson. You are free to go."

In his current matter, Hutchinson is remanded in custody until September 20, when the matter is set for mention. A subpoena was issued for the investigating officer and complainant to attend.
