A Corporate Area man is expected to pay $100,000 in compensation after he assaulted his co-worker when she took exception to a rude comment from him.

Morris Thorpe Jr pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.

"We work together and I show her a container with a little bit of soap and said 'You can wash her [vagina] with this' and she turn to me and say me fi wash out my mouth with it. I draped her, Your Honour, and tell her to watch what she saying to me," Thorpe shared with the court.

But his 'joke' did not amuse Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque, who chided him for his comments about the female's body.

"That is not appropriate, especially when you know nothing about the lady. You don't joke about things like that, it is distasteful. That is my unsolicited advice," the judge said.

The complainant indicated that from the assault, a previous head injury was aggravated. She said she was hit in the head previously, and due to Thorpe's actions, she had to receive medical attention. According to her doctor's visits as well as medication prescribed, the total was $100,000.

"I don't think that is an unreasonable amount," Judge Cole-Montaque reasoned.

Thorpe made a first payment in court of US $300 and is expected to pay the remaining sums on October 25, when the matter is set for mention.

"Be careful with your words," the senior jurist warned as the parties exited the courtroom.
