Relatives grieve after couple murdered at bus stop
Overcome with grief following the brutal slaying of her mother and stepfather, a distraught woman walked into the path of a moving car, flung herself on the hot asphalt and painfully screamed that she wanted to be run over.
As the driver of an approaching car pumped on his brakes, the woman was pulled out of the McCooks Pen, St Catherine, main road by another grieving relative. The deceased have been identified as Derran Kepple, 55, and Angella Weatherburn. They were reportedly waiting at a bus stop in McCooks Pen to take them to peddle their goods at the Coronation Market when they met their demise early Monday morning.
According to reports, about 4 a.m., citizens alerted the police after hearing loud explosions and stumbled upon the two bodies behind a bus stop. Upon the arrival of the police, the bodies of Kepple and Weatherburn were seen lying face down with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.
A relative told THE STAR that the family had relocated from West Kingston to McCooks Pen approximately two years ago following the death of a family member. She said they were not involved in any wrongdoing and just wanted a new start at life following the tragedy.
While screaming out 'Mommy', another of Weatherburn's children trembled as he violently ripped out the cornrows from his scalp. As his loved ones tried to contain him, he hollered and rolled on the ground as the bodies were being moved into the funeral home van. He was later assisted to the hospital. The incident caused traffic to be at a standstill for hours as detectives processed the scene.
