Four illegal firearms seized in St James

Two 12-gauge shotguns, an M16 assault rifle, and a Smith and Wesson pistol were all seized by the police following operations in two communities in St James on Thursday. 

The first operation lead lawmen to the Retirement district where, during the search of a home, the shotguns and 17 rounds of ammunition were found inside a garbage bag beneath a mattress.

No arrest was made in connection with the find.

The police were then lead to the Flower Hill district where another premises was searched.

The M16 rifle with one magazine containing 25 rounds, and the Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition were seized. 

The pistol and ammunition was found wrapped in a handkerchief atop a cabinet, whilst the rifle along with its cartridges, were found on the roof.

One man was subsequently taken into custody.

Investigations continue.
