Man stones girlfriend in fight over money
A 52-year-old Corporate Area man confessed to beating his 29-year-old girlfriend, following an argument that developed when he decided to loan her $250,000.
Prosecutors at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court outlined police reports that the defendant, Delroy Knight, assaulted and threatened to kill his girlfriend. The court also heard that Knight threw stones that hit the complainant in her stomach. He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stone throwing and threat to kill.
Knight, who sought to be admitted to bail on Monday when he appeared before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque, submitted that he would not interfere with the complainant.
"We were in love, I fall in love with her and she was in love with me. We were together since 2018 until 2023. I lent her $250,000 and a likkle ting go down," Knight said. But the judge was not swayed to offer Knight bail, as investigators contend that he may contact or communicate with his girlfriend.
"Just hang tight for a little while. I need to have the complainant here for us to solve the matter," Cole-Montaque said. Knight was remanded in custody until October 24 for investigators to secure the attendance of the complainant.
