The 35 refugees who landed in Long Bay, Portland  last weekend were sent back to their home country of Haiti via a Jamaica Defence Coast guard vessel on Monday.

It is reported that the decision to repatriate the group came after it was discovered that two members were among those sent back to war-torn island on September 10.

This most recent group comprised of 27 adult males, three adult females, and five children.

A senior police source, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, revealed that arrival of the Haitians raised national security concerns.

He claimed that the Haitians, who landed on Sunday, fled the landing location and were being led by the two repeat offenders in an effort to filter into the local population.

It was a quick response by the police that led to their apprehension

Currently, the first group of Haitians that arrived in Jamaica on July 10 is awaiting their fate as to whether or not they will be granted asylum or if they will be sent home.

So far 108 Haitians, who claimed that they are fleeing gang warfare, economic hardships, hunger, and persecution, have landed in Jamaica in search of a better life.
