The Transport Authority (TA) has confirmed that the taximan seen in a now viral video verbally abusing a student over fare was arrested and charged by the Old Harbour Police.

He has been charged with common assault and warned for operating without a badge, failure to wear uniform, and unlawfully deceiving a passenger as to the fare for a journey by the TA.

The authority also confirmed that  the owner of the taxi has subsequently relieved the driver of his duties.

In the meantime, the TA is reminding operators that children, students (in uniform), physically disabled and senior citizens pay HALF (1/2) of the approved fare.

Any deviation will result in prosecution under regulation 129 (d) of the Road Traffic Regulations and may be fined up $100,000.00 if convicted for the offence under section 107(3) of the Road Traffic Act.
