Inmate says cockroach bit her in lock-up

After spending a weekend in custody where she was allegedly swarmed by mosquitoes nightly and even bitten by a cockroach, a Corporate Area woman has vowed not to get involved in criminal proceedings again.

"I have to pay to learn and I think I have learned my lesson Your Honour. If I don't learn it now, I don't know when again me ago learn Your Honour. I'm not coming back here ever again," Nicole Edwards pledged. Edwards was remanded last Friday by Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque, for disrespecting a senior police officer.

A remorseful Edwards apologised repeatedly to the officer on Monday and begged for her forgiveness.

"I feel some pain in my leg and I have to sleep on newspaper on the top bunk. In there dark and mosquito bite me up, all roach bite me up," the woman recounted of her experience at a Corporate Area lock-up.

Edwards is charged with Jevaughnie Daley for assault at common law. They are both accused of holding a knife to the stomach of the complainant, Edward's landlord. The complainant shared in court that Edwards and Daley have been threatening him, since he served them with notice to quit earlier this year.

"Your Honour, she tell me to s*** my mother and other things. The amount of abuse I get in my own house Your Honour, my spirit is traumatised," the complainant expressed.

The judge, having analysed the situation, reasoned that Edwards, Daley nor the complainant should be living in the same property. Edwards and Daley had their bail restored with strict conditions attached that they are not to contact or communicate with the complainant and were ordered to report twice weekly to the police. Cole-Montaque ordered that the accused are not to return to the complainant's home after October 24 at 12 p.m. It is expected that at that time all their belongings will be removed from the home.

Edwards and Daley are to return to court on November 13, when the matter is set for mention.
