Layton 'Honormosity' Simms waited patiently for over an hour last Friday for his bride, Nicolette Spencer, to arrive at the Salem New Testament Church of God in Salem, St Ann.

His white jacket, with black lapel, and black pants complemented his flowing locks and gave him that dapper look. If there were any worry on his mind, it never showed. Despite the 'Sting incident' in which he was involved taking place just three days prior, on Friday, Simms cut a relaxed demeanour.

"Nothing could stop this wedding, it's all about love, it was meant to be," he said. "Nothing can break love. Love is the most powerful weapon. Love is what keeps everything together; love is what keeps us together in this specific time and moment."

The romance between Simms and Spencer, who he calls his soulmate, is like something from a Harlequin romance novel. Spencer is a special-needs education teacher who has been teaching English language in Japan for over 12 years, and they met a friend's house.

"We've been together about a year now and we mostly communicate by video calls. But you see in life, when you reach a certain point and you have experiences with women and then you decide you want to settle, you're looking for a certain quality, a certain type of woman. So, when you meet that woman, it doesn't take a long time for you to recognise those qualities, once you're looking for the right qualities," he said.

Not known for love songs, Simms' lyrics flowed freely as he sang parts of I'm in Love. He sang two verses:

"I've been a player all my life I ain't new to women

But since I met you girl, it's like a new beginning

It's coming from my heart that's where you'll be living

I ain't putting on a show this ain't no movie filming

"All my friends keep telling me I need to take it slow

But you got me buying rings, you got me making vows

Pouring out my heart I love the way it flows

I love you so much I got to let you know

I'm in love

I'm in love

I'm in love."

Simms said the video will feature clips from the wedding. It was at minutes to five when most of the guests arrived, followed by the bride.

Spencer looked stunning and was worth the wait. She was dressed in a sequin-decorated white satin gown with a royal train and complementing tiara and veil. Her arrival coincided with the start of a drizzle.

Bishop Martin Murphy conducted the ceremony, which had around 40 persons attending, made up of relatives and close friends of the couple. Though the drizzle became a steady downpour by the end of the short ceremony, some declared the rain as "showers of blessing".

"I feel awesome, I feel elated, I feel great, actually," the bride said, leaving no doubt as to how the relationship will be.

"I'm looking forward to working together with him. I'll be his helper, helping to build him. I'm looking forward to helping to build his life, for him to go higher and for us to grow as one," she said.

In terms of his music career, she stated: "I will be there in the background, supporting him spiritually. Who knows, maybe I'll be a manager some day, I don't know." Spencer, who is a devout Christian, said that together, she and Simms are now "one".

"And this is what makes the union so beautiful, because we both have beautiful souls. I'm a little firecracker, he's not; he's the calmer one who calms me," she said. As for the song? "I think it's lovely and it warms my heart."
