The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) says 130 of the 6,726 polling stations islandwide opened after the 7 a.m. deadline.

The ECJ says those stations opened between 7:05 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.

Just over two million electors are eligible to vote at their designated polling stations spread across about 2,700 locations.

In the Portmore municipality, where residents directly elect their mayor, just under 107,000 people are eligible to vote.

Incumbent mayor, Leon Thomas, is going up against political neophyte and broadcaster, Markland Edwards.

The 319 polling stations in Portmore were all declared open on time.
