Drivers facing delay in getting fitness certificates

There is now a delay in the issuance of fitness certificates to drivers.

The Island Traffic Authority says this is due to challenges with its system.

The agency says motorists who go to renew their certificates of fitness will have their vehicles checked and an indication made at the back of the expired or expiring fitness as to the roadworthiness of the vehicle.

It says those vehicles that are found to have issues will be given a list of defects that must be remedied.

The authority says the police’s Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch has been made aware of these challenges.

It says it will continue to monitor the situation and will update the public accordingly.
