A 42-year-old blamed hunger for landing him in criminal court, after he was charged with breaking the glass door at a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet.

"Me never mean it in any way, never did it out of spite. Me did hungry Your Honour," the defendant Kemrom Christie explained on Thursday.

Christie, who pleaded guilty to malicious destruction of property before Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell, recounted that he had purchased a meal at the KFC but became frustrated when the food wasn't immediately ready.

"Me go inna KFC and the chicken never ready so me go outside," the defendant recalled.

He told the court that he then had a disagreement with a security guard who was assigned to the restaurant. The nature of the stand-off was not stated, but the court heard that the situation escalated when Christie and a security guard got into a scuffle.

The security guard shared: "He was tussling with me and him box me and me 'sight' it. Me a go fi box him back and him sight me, and he took off from me and ran into the door."

When questioned by the judge about his previous court appearances, Christie replied, "No, Your Honour, I've only been arrested for weed."

Burrell advised Christie to stay away from drugs, saying, "You need to leave the weed alone; it's not doing you any good."

The cost of the damaged door was not specified, but prosecutors noted it had been replaced since it was insured. Burrell imposed a fine of $50,000 or 30 days in prison, and cautioned Christie to avoid future incidents.
