Second man charged over shooting at wake for Christopher Martin's grandmother
A second man has been charged in connection with the gun attack at the wake of reggae artiste Christopher Martin's late grandmother in Cudjoe Hill, St Catherine.
He is 20-year-old Javauhn Dwyer, alias JT.
Dwyer, a bus conductor from the area, is charged with seven counts of wounding with intent, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, using a firearm to commit a felony and gang-related offences.
The police say he was identified as a person of interest and was later arrested after responding to a request to turn himself in.
His arrest followed that of 23-year-old Junior Coleman, who was charged earlier with murder and various gun and gang-related crimes in connection with the incident.
Seven people were injured in the attack, while 34-year-old Oniel Spencer, alias Tarus, was fatally shot in a separate but related incident.
Dwyer's court date is yet to be determined.
Commander of the St Catherine North police, Acting Senior Superintendent Hopeton Nicholson, who confirmed the arrest and charges, also reported a 25 per cent reduction in murders in the area since the start of the year.
The division, he said, has recorded 59 murders when compared to 79 for the corresponding period last year.
