Mother accused of throwing infant off rooftop to go back to court on November 5

September 30, 2024

The case against Shamoya Green, the woman accused of throwing her infant daughter off a rooftop to her death last December, will be heard in the St James Circuit Court on November 5.

Green, who is charged with the murder of five-month-old Destiny Brown, got the court date during her committal hearing in the St James Parish Court via Zoom this morning.

Presiding parish judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton noted that the trial judge in the circuit court will determine if Green will attend that court session in person or online.

It is expected that a fitness to plea hearing will take place at the next hearing to determine whether Green, who suffers from mental challenges and seizures, will be fit to stand.

It is alleged that on December 6, 2023, at 5:35 p.m., Green was at a family house with her common-law husband and other family members trying to have a conversation with the man about their relationship. However, he put off the talks to later that evening.

Green reportedly became enraged and left the room, taking Brown with her to the roof on the third floor. She then threw her child onto a concrete pit in the yard.

The police were alerted and the baby was taken to hospital, where she died while being treated.
