Knife-wielding man shot by police
A full psychiatric report was requested by a senior parish judge to determine the mental health of a Corporate Area man who is alleged to have pulled a knife at police officers.
A relative of the accused, Anthony Cole, indicated to Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell that he had been a psychiatric patient for more than 20 years. The nature of his illness was not shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. Allegations shared by prosecutors state that, on August 14, the police were responding to reports of malicious destruction of property, and that Cole, armed with a knife, was also at the location. Upon the arrival of the police, Cole was instructed to put the knife down. It is alleged that Cole advanced to the police. He was shot in the groin and hospitalised. He was subsequently charged with assault at common law.
As a condition of his bail, Cole is to report to the police once weekly and is to return to court on December 12, when the matter is set for mention.
