Judge warns citizens about interfering with police

October 07, 2024

Parish Judge Tracy-Ann Robinson warned citizens inside the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday that interfering with the works of the police attracts a hefty fine.

"Spread the word! Anybody who interferes with the work of the police the maximum fine is $1 million. Do not interfere with the police," the judge warned.

Her comments came after an elderly man, Richard Smith Sr., and his son Richard Smith Jr. agreed to attend mediation with the police, who are complainants in a matter of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, obstructing police, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. The men did not enter a plea.

It is alleged that there was an altercation between the father and son and the police, which resulted in a physical confrontation that caused injuries to the lawmen.

The matter was adjourned until November 7 for mention.
