A businessman, 53-year-old Sheldon Cameron, was fined more than $3.3 million dollars in the Manchester Parish Court yesterday, after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine valued at $11 million.

It was reported that on February 11, officers from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) arrested Cameron after a vehicle at his business place was searched and 2.3 kilograms of the drug was found hidden under the driver's seat.

He was charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The businessman was sentenced to $950,000 or six months' imprisonment for possession of cocaine and $2,375,000 or six months' imprisonment at hard labour for dealing in cocaine.

Head of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division Superintendent Samuel Blake says, “This outcome underscores our dedication to combating organised crime and ensuring justice is served. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of those who threaten public safety."

No evidence was presented against his co-accused Nicola Munroe.

A criminal forfeiture hearing is set for January 30, 2025, in the Manchester Circuit Court.
