Judge not amused by ‘s**k yuh mada’ insult
A security guard who admitted to punching a Corporate Area man in the face after he made derogatory remarks about his mother was freed of criminal charges on Tuesday.
It was reported that the complainant was attempting to enter a supermarket where the guard, Kevin Hawthoine, is employed. The security policy of the supermarket requires that customers leave their bags at the baggage area. Hawthoine indicated this to the complainant, who became defiant and argued with Hawthoine that he would not be leaving his bag.
A spat ensued between the men and the complainant reportedly told Hawthoine, "Me nah talk to nuh nobody who nuh wah hear weh me affi say, guh s**k yuh mada!"
The allegations outlined by prosecutors at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court worked in the favour of Hawthoine, as the complainant was viewed as the aggressor.
Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell was not amused when she heard what the complainant allegedly told the security guard.
"He told this man to go and do things to his mother and wants to go to trial?" the judge asked.
The judge had offered to send the matter to mediation but the complainant rejected and opted to proceed to trial.
Hawthoine pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm but the judge opted against imposing a penalty on him.
"Sir, go home. You're admonished and discharged. Next time, you walk away from people," the judge instructed Hawthoine.
