Judge sends couple to mediation

Parish Judge Simone Walker-McFarlane referred a couple to counselling on Thursday, following allegations that the the man choked his child's mother and stole her car.

Jason Higgins appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court to answer to charges of simple larceny and assaulting female. Allegations shared are that the complainant, the mother of Higgins' seven-month-old baby, carried their child to school. When she returned to her vehicle, Higgins was in the car. He allegedly choked her and took away her iPhone valued at US$1,000 (approximately J$158,000) and drove away her vehicle. The complainant indicated that she wanted to end the matter, but Walker-McFarlane recommended that the couple receive counselling.

"Given the relationship, they may need counselling," the presiding judge said.

The matter was referred to the probation and aftercare services and Higgins is to return to court on February 28, 2025.
