Cocaine valued at nearly 20 million dollars seized in Trinidad
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Police say they have arrested 12 people, seized three firearms and TT$19.2 million in cocaine during ongoing anti-crime operations across the country.
The lawmen said that officers intercepted two vehicles along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, on the outskirts of the capital on Thursday night, and following a search of the vehicles they discovered 12 packets of cocaine weighing 13.8 kilogrammes. The drug has an estimated street value of TT$19,236,096.
Three male suspects, ages 19 to 36, were arrested in connection with the find.
In a statement, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said that in their latest exercise, police officers conducted a house search in Valsayn on the outskirts of the capital, early this morning, resulting in the discovery of one air rifle and one pistol, loaded with a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition.
Three suspects, who were on the premises at the time of the exercise, were arrested in connection with the finds.
Police said that in another exercise, officers intercepted a motor vehicle with four male occupants shortly after. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of an imitation firearm and the recovery of the items stolen from the victims of an earlier robbery. The occupants of the vehicle in ages ranging from 18 to 25 years, have been arrested.
Police said in Tobago, officers searched a truck, which was disembarking the Cabo Star Ferry, from Trindad, and seized 2.8 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis.
A 24-year-old man is assisting with the investigations.
