Detectives assigned to the St Andrew Central Police Division have charged 23-year-old Avon Sutherland, of Loture Avenue, Kingston 13, for a murder committed along Molynes Road, Kingston 10, on December 19, 2024.

The deceased has been identified as 61-year-old Wayne Cephas, a production manager of Jimbling Place, Portmore Pines, St Catherine. Reports indicate that at 3:55 p.m., Cephas was driving his motor car when, on approaching an intersection, Sutherland and another man - who were both on a motorcycle - approached his vehicle. The pillion, whose identity remains unknown, opened gunfire at Cephas, hitting him in the upper body before escaping. Cephas lost control of his motor vehicle and collided with two other vehicles. The police were alerted and Cephas was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation led to Sutherland being charged after being pointed out during an identification parade; a formal interview was also conducted. His court date is being arranged.
