Brothers charged with taxi operator's death

Two brothers have been arrested and charged on Wednesday for the shooting death of 37-year-old taxi operator Andre Wilson of Nannyville Gardens, Kingston.

Charged with murder and possession of prohibited weapon are 21-year-old deliveryman Kadeem Smith of Providence Pen Lane, Swallowfield and 24-year-old Kareem Smith of Stoney River Path, Nannyville both in Kingston.

The Half Way Tree police say that about 7:38 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, Wilson was walking in his community when he was approached by the Smith duo, who were allegedly armed with firearms.

They opened gunfire at him hitting him multiple times.

Wilson ran in an effort to escape his attackers, who gave chase and shot him again before escaping in the area.

The police were summoned and on their arrival the injured man was seen with gunshot wounds.

He was assisted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched which led to the arrest of Kareem and Kadeem.

They were taken into custody and subsequently charged yesterday, based on eyewitness report.

Their court date is being finalised.
