St Andrew North police seize shotgun during raid in Whitehall
The St Andrew North police seized a shotgun in the community of Whitehall, in the vicinity of a housing complex on Wednesday.
This moves the number of illegal guns seized in the division to 12, since the start of the year.
Reports are that a police team conducted a snap raid in the vicinity of Victoria Court, off Whitehall Avenue.
During the raid, a 12 gauge shotgun was found.
No one was arrested in connection to the seizure.
Acting Superintendent Randy Sweeney confirmed the latest raid.
"This is part of our effort to target gangs, guns and gunmen. We are relentless in this pursuit as we seek to reduce crime and violence right across the division, particularly murders and shootings," Acting Superintendent Sweeney said.
The divisional commander also said residents can rest assured that the police are here to serve and protect.
"We will be doing this with a high level of motivation, in fact we are asking anyone with any information they can share with the police regarding crime and violence, to please communicate that with the police. They can call crime stop 311 and 924-1421 at the Constant Spring police," Sweeney said.
As of March 29 there has been a 13 per cent increase in shootings.
