INDECOM probing fatal police shooting in Portmore

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of a man by the police in Bridgeport, Portmore, yesterday.

Reports are that about 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, police personnel went to a premises along Andrea Crescent in the Bridgeport area of St Catherine.

According to the police, upon entering the premises, the team was reportedly challenged by a man who was armed with a handgun. The police took defensive action and opened fire, injuring the man.

He was subsequently found clutching a firearm, which was later identified as a .38 revolver with six rounds of ammunition.

The injured man was assisted to the Spanish Town General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations is continuing investigations into the incident.
