Woman wakes to find intruder, fights off alleged rapist
A Manchester woman was forced to fight off a terrifying attack after she woke up to find a man inside her home who allegedly assaulted her and tried to rape her.
Reports from the Mandeville police are that about 2:30 am on Friday, March 13, the woman awoke to find her bedroom door open, despite having locked it before going to bed.
It is further reported that while she was in the process of closing the door, the man, later identified as Damani Richards, allegedly attacked her and attempted to rape her.
The police say the woman managed to thwart the assault and prevent the rape, after which the accused fled the house.
A report was made, and following investigations, Richards was taken into custody during a targeted operation.
The 26-year-old, of Golden Run district in Craighead, Manchester, has since been charged with burglary and assault with intent to rape.
He was charged on Monday, March 23, after being identified during an identification parade.
His court date is being finalised.
