Outar, Morgan lead Melbourne win
Jamaica representatives, all-rounder Roshana Outar and batsman Jodian Morgan led Melbourne Women to a nine-wicket win over St Ann Women in the opening round of the Jamaica Cricket Association Women's one-day league at Melbourne Oval yesterday.
Batting first, St Ann were dismissed at 66 for nine in 16.1 overs, batting a player short, with Outar claiming four for 10 off her medium pace. She was supported by off-spinner Pricella Wilson, two for two.
West Indies Women batsman, Chinelle Henry 13 was the only bats-woman to get into double figures for St Ann.
Melbourne, in their run chase, then cruised to 73 for one with Morgan ending unbeaten on 28, and West Indies Women opener, Natasha McLean, unbeaten on 15.
"For a first match, the girls played well, especially so given that we just started training," said Melbourne coach, Dorothy Hobson.
"The fielding was not all that, however, of the standard that we would like, and is something we need to work on.
"It was good to see Outar bowling as well as she did, and our batters applying themselves.
The six-team league, which was launched last Friday, also has as participating teams Portland Women, Westmoreland Women, St Elizabeth Women and DW People's Choice taking part.
