World Championship representative Fedrick Dacres is aiming for an outstanding season as he hopes to make it to his first Olympic Games and has his sights set on Rio this August.

Dacres maintained his winning form this season at

last Saturday's Grace Jackson/Queen's Meet at the National Stadium, throwing 61.32 metres in the Men's Open discus.

He finished ahead of good friend Traves Smikle, who was second with 57.47 metres.

Despite winning, Dacres was not pleased.

"I could have done much better, but I was pulling too high, and this resulted in that distance, but it is a work in progress and I will see what happen, at my next meet," he said.

"I would like to get over 65m once more as this is my yearly aim, and the rivalry is good between Chad (Wright) and Traves and me as we push each other in the ring and in the gym," he said of his compatriots.

"Traves is back, and he will get much better, and it was good that Chad spent a few months with us in training before going back overseas this month and we all enjoy the competition in training," he said.

Dacres believes that Jamaica is moving in the right direction in the throws.

"I have some quality people working alongside. My aim is now to make it to my first Olympic Games as I always want to compete at the highest level, and I think the country is moving in the right direction in throwing events," he concluded.

Dacres will be leaving the island soon to compete on the European circuit.
