Bellefield's Parks building on Campbell's success

Bellefield High's middle distance standout Shevan Parks says he is looking to build on the success of the school's most outstanding athlete, Kemoy Campbell, who he described as one of his biggest inspirations ahead of a highly anticipated clash against St Elizabeth Technical's Jauavney James.

According to Parks, Campbell, who went on to impress on the US collegiate circuit, and also represented Jamaica at last year's IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, after years of dominance in the 5000m and 1500m at Champs, has left a legacy at the Manchester-based institution that he intends to continue.

Parkes, the defending Class One 1500m champion, also said that he is determined to defend his title and add the 800m gold medal, after last year's sixth-place finish in that event.

"I have never spoken to him (Campbell), but I always look up to his performances, he is a phenomenal athlete," Parks told STAR Sports. "He inspires me a lot. He is the man that has set the foundation for the school, so we want to continue on from where he left off.

SENIOR LEVEL REPRESENTATION

"I would certainly like to go on and represent Jamaica at the senior level in these events, it's something I look forward to doing," added Parks, who went on to give the thumbs up to his preparation coming into the championships.

"The preparation has been great, I feel good coming here. My coach and my team have been doing well so I am happy. Everyone has stuck by my side and I'm feeling good about my chances here," he added.
